The Monaco Grand Prix returns this weekend for what could be the most important running in the event's history. Its spot as the jewel in F1's crown has come under threat in recent years as the sport places focus on more exciting racing action as well as the increasing trend to take races to global destinations for street races. But the introduction of Las Vegas later this year will likely be Monaco's biggest concern with a view to safeguarding its future on the schedule. Here's why. Fernando Alonso says he is hopeful that Aston Martin can catch up to Red Bull at some tracks this year, after finishing closer to the dominant team in Miami. The Aston Martin driver finished 26 seconds off Sergio Perez at the finish, which is just six seconds slower than their finish at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. Even though the gap appears to have increased and Red Bull had more pace as they were saving fuel towards the end, Alonso believes it will be tough but is counting on some upgrades to bring them closer. "I think the year is going to be difficult. The gap is quite big even though I think today has been our best race pace yet in the season," he told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "We finished closest to the leaders, [with] no safety cars, nothing in the race and we’re still quite fast. So let's see. The season is going to be long. "Hopefully some of the tracks we will be a little bit closer to them. And some of the upgrades that w...

Sergio Perez says he will not deploy Formula 1 title 'mind Game s' on teammate Max Verstappen as they battle for the 2023 crown. The Mexican is firmly in the hunt for a maiden world title against the reigning double champion, with the Red Bull RB19 firmly ahead of rival cars, meaning it it unlikely Mercedes, Ferrari or Aston Martin will be able to get into regular contention for wins. Perez is just six points behind Verstappen in the standings, meaning that if he wins in Miami this weekend, he will top the Drivers' standings for the first time in his career. However, the 33-year-old says he is not into playing any mindgames with Verstappen - preferring a straight fight out on track. Ralf Schumacher says Formula 1 would continue to thrive even if Max Verstappen follows through on his threat to quit the sport. The reigning World Champion has in recent weeks been vocal in his criticism of the direction F1 is heading in, having stated his opposition to the Sprint weekend format. Verstappen has also criticised the proposed expansion of the F1 calendar to 25 races, which the sport's powerbrokers seem keen to follow through on. The Dutchman is contracted to Red Bull until 2028, but says he could walk away from F1 if he feels there are too many additions and revisions to its current format. Schumacher told Sky Deutschland that he understood Verstappen's displeasure with elements of F1's current state, highlighting several complaints that arose after the number of restart procedures at the Australian Grand Prix. "I agree with [Verstappen] on that point. It's a huge burden for the driver," said Schumacher, who won six Grands Prix...
