Chelsea's best and worst players in 4-4 draw with Man City

Image
And breathe. Chelsea and Manchester City delivered liquid Barclays ahead of another unwanted international break on Sunday evening at Stamford Bridge. The two played out a genuine Premier League classic, filled with eight goals, VAR controversy, and even a 94th minute equaliser scored by Cole Palmer against his former club. After all that madness, we've taken a look at who were Chelsea's best and worst performers on the day with a little help from 90min's player ratings. Chelsea's best player vs Man City Cole Palmer: 8/10 The goal / Marc Atkins/GettyImages Who else? Signed by Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer after his former club couldn't guarantee regular Game time at the Etihad Stadium, Palmer poetically came back haunt City on Sunday with his new club. His headline contribution was, of course, the 94th minute penalty which he coolly slotted into the top corner of the net to make it 4-4, but Palmer's overall performance was also pretty exceptional....

Lebron enters season 21: What other NBA players have played 20 years or more?

Performance is one thing, longevity is another. With that in mind, there are only a select few in the NBA who have been blessed with both. Here, we take a look at those elite players who have managed to stretch their careers across two decades or more. LeBron James joins the 21-year-club This year, Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James will be joining the ranks of an exclusive club as he heads into his 21st season in the league. In such a fast-paced and physically challenging game, not many are able to last two decades in the NBA as the sport takes a big toll on an athlete’s body. LeBron James became the NBA's #ScoringKing last season 👑 In Year 21, the journey continues. Guardiola names three Man City players who made Wolves loss 'more difficult'

Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City lacked "fluidity" in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Saturday and picked out three players whose performances made life more difficult for his side. City were beaten in the Premier League for the first time since May - a 1-0 defeat to Brentford on the final day with the title already wrapped up - and just missed out on a club record of seven straight wins to start a top-flight season. A Ruben Dias own goal gave Wolves a first-half lead before Julian Alvarez equalised with a free kick just before the hour mark. Hwang Hee-chan popped in the winner in the 66th minute as the Citizens' lead at the top of the table shrunk to a point. Guardiola revealed key functions were not carried out by midfielder Mateo Kovacic and defender Dias, while he also explained why Matheus Nunes was brought off at half-time against his former club. The City boss said: "We didn't do our process properly to attack with a little more fluidity and that'...

Manchester City's best and worst players in Brighton draw

Image
Manchester City's winning run came to an end at 12 games as they were held to a draw by Europa League qualifiers Brighton. The Citizens - recently confirmed as Premier League champions - took the lead through Phil Foden but Julio Enciso's strike from distance meant the points were shared, ensuring the Seagulls tied up sixth place. City looked ahead to finals against Manchester United and Inter in the FA Cup and Champions League with their substitutes bench, though the starting XI still had world class players everywhere you looked. Here's who stole the show at the AMEX and who flattered to deceive. Manchester City's best player vs Brighton Phil Foden: 8/10 Foden struck from close range / GLYN KIRK/GettyImages He was given little time to improve on a brilliant first half, but Foden's goal edged him ahead as City's leading player on Wednesday night. His finish wasn't as precise as it has been at previous points in the season but was still enough to give City...

NBA must fix its load management problem by working with players to protect the popularity of the NBA

Hit 'em where it hurts. That seems to be the idea behind an idea first reported by The Athletic that would go after the overabundance of load management by tying NBA awards to games played for the players striving to win them. Though short on details, the notion centers on making a number of appearances a key factor for the big honors handed out each season.  Load management has, clearly, gone too far. Fans missing out on seeing stars, over and over, for rest disguised as injuries. There are too many instances to list.  The NBA has a real problem here. This idea, floated in the media, nebulous in its details though it may be, has a ring of potential to it. Yet in conversations with decision makers around the league, the idea of using awards to force players to play more games had two common responses: It's a great idea. And fat chance it works -- or even happens. ...
